Milly's Place / David

One of the things we are passionate about is owner support and owner surrender programming. Unfortunately in rescue work, this is one of the programs that does not receive a lot of "hype" by donors.

That is why WilsonHaus supports fellow rescues partaking in them who may not have the financial backing to do so as much as they'd like

David is one of those cases.

In July, Milly's Place received a call from a very desperate man searching for a solution for his horse, David.

The man explained he had lost his job and was not able to financially care for David, hardly even able to feed him. They were rationing David's hay and just fed the last of it. David was very rapidly losing weight.

The first intervention when a family clearly loves and animal but is struggling is to try to keep the animal with the family, but offer support. Milly's Place told the man they would deliver a month's worth of hay and feed for David and pay for basic vetting and a farrier appointment and recheck in a month. We know believe part of the problem was also the original owner's lack of education about caring for horses. He inherited David from a neighbor, who also did not take very good care of him.

The family did not get David medical care and was still underfeeding David despite having the support and guidance from MP staff. David was surrendered to Milly's Place and placed on a refeeding program.

WilsonHaus offered to sponsor the owner support in July of 500 dollars as well as donate 500/month to Milly's Place to support David's needs and pay for vetting required.

The breakdown thus far has been

The plan for David at this time is that he is on a refeeding program to help him gain weight. There has been noted dragging of the hind end and a head tilt - both have been ruled out as neurologic. It is possible that due to his malnutrition, he has develped an altered gait due to weakness or perhaps an old injury to his pelvis. The head tilt is suspected may be due to partial blindness or arthritis, but further tests are going to be done once he gains weight.

A chiropractor and massage therapist are going to also become involved in David's care as soon as he puts a little more weight on.

We are so honored to be able to help support this gentle soul recover and that Milly's place is able to physically steward him and provide his care.

More to come for mister David. Only good things for this sweet man here on out.
