Hank's Rescue/Four Shar-Peis

Location: Arkansas

Type of Rescue: Owner Surrender

Housing Rescue: Hank's Rescue

Need: 8,000 dollars for surgeries and care

Bought for backyard breeding by people who had no knowledge. These four shar-peis were then given to a family member who did not want them.

He was going to shoot them because they were inconveniencing him. Thankfully, a coworker of his reached out to a rescue just in them and they were able to intervene.

The dogs were kept outside in a makeshift kennel area - secured with a rusty mattress. Their eyes so inflamed, three of the four can hardly see.

Medically - they are in rough shape. The vet has assessed all four and confirmed they all need a surgery to correct their entropion.

We have all had something in our eye, you rub it, and can’t get it out. Imagine that but magnified. Their eyes are so swollen, they are almost inflamed shut due to irritation caused by eyelids that grow inward - thereby the hair causes corneal abrasions constantly.

"Entropion is an inversion or inward turning of the eyelid margin. This can result in trichiasis, where the eyelashes are directed posteriorly toward the globe. It is one of the most common eyelid malpositions."

The surgery is estimated to be 1,500. Per dog. Plus all need vaccines and alterations. WilsonHaus successfully raised 8k to sponsor their comprehensive care and surgeries.

Hank’s Rescue did not ask for our help. But I could feel the weight of their videos as they posted about them. Hank's Rescue is also collaborating with Adopt A Stray Rescue in Arkansas to coordinate care.

They have decided to use Dr. Beach for all care. The dates of surgeries are as follows

September 11 - Alteration x 2 dogs

September 13 - Alteration x 2 dogs

September 20 - Entropion Surgery Dog 1

September 23 - Entropion Surgery Dog 2

September 24 - Entropion Surgery Dog 3

September 25 - Entropion Surgery Dog 4

WilsonHaus made a deposit of 6,000 dollars directly to the clinic on August 30 (see below)

The clinic is a small rural clinic and was not able to email the receipt, but she said she is mailing is snail mail (which is kind of endearing)

As the dogs receive their care, I have asked Hank's Rescue/Adopt A Stray to send invoices so I can upload them on the log here for transparency.

We did not have an exact estimate per dog yet, so I put 6k down and told the clinic to please charge my rescue card on file as they need for the dogs.

There is 2,140 dollars in reserve for them still. Whatever is leftover from the amount raised of 8,140 after all vetting is done will be sent to Hank's Rescue to use as they need for the dogs.

Here is the screenshot from the rescue account on August 30 of the 6k deposit made. As soon as I get an official invoice, I will upload that promptly.

The first two dogs go in for their alter on September 11 and I will upload that first invoice when I get a copy from either the clinic or the collaborative rescues.

Thank you all for making this possible for them!
