OUR
adoption
PROCESS
At WilsonHaus Rescue, our adoption process is intentional, thoughtful, and centered around what’s best for both the dog and the adopter.
We’re not a first-come, first-served rescue - our goal is to create the right match, not the fastest one. Every dog is different, and we take the time to ensure each placement is a true long-term fit.
We also believe that successful adoptions don’t happen by chance, they’re built through preparation, education, and support. When we set people up for success, we set dogs up for success.
Our process includes an application, a meet-and-greet, and a virtual home environment review to ensure each dog is placed into a safe, aligned, and supportive home.
Throughout the process, we focus on transparency, communication, and finding the best possible match for both sides.
To support you beyond adoption day, we provide access to online resources, FAQs, and an optional orientation designed to help you feel confident and prepared as you welcome your new dog home.
We’re here not just for the adoption day - but for everything that comes after
APPLY
1
Whether you have found a dog on our site that you think would be a good fit, or are looking for WilsonHaus to play match maker, we start with the application process. We will review your application and contact you to discuss next steps which would include a virtual or in person home visit.
MEET
&
GREET
Once your application has been approved, we schedule a meet and greet for the dog you are interested in to ensure it's a good fit. If you have any canine family members, this is also an opportunity to assess their interactions in a neutral environment. If the meet and greet goes well, and the potential adopters are ready to make a commitment to give one of our pups their loving forever home then we will set an adoption date.
2
PREPARE
At WilsonHaus, we believe that preparation is key to a successful adoption. That’s why we provide adopters with the tools and resources needed to feel confident and supported as they welcome their new dog home.
We offer an optional online orientation designed to help you feel prepared, answer common questions, and set clear expectations for this transition. We’re looking for adopters who are eager to learn, willing to commit, and ready to create a smooth, thoughtful transition for their new canine companion.
3
ADOPT
WilsonHaus and adopter will schedule an adoption appointment where we will sign paperwork, answer any questions and provide adopter with their packet and certificate of adoption. Congratulations!

FAQS
HOW MUCH ARE ADOPTION FEES?
Our adoption fees vary depending on the age and breed of the dog. The fees range between 300-500 dollars. These fees help us cover the cost of vaccinations, spaying/neutering, and other medical expenses. We believe that the love and companionship that our dogs provide are priceless, but we do ask for a fee to help us continue our mission of rescuing at-risk dogs from euthanasia in overcrowded shelters.
WHAT IS INCLUDED IN THE ADOPTION PACKAGE?
WilsonHaus Rescue strives to go above and beyond for our dogs and their new guardians. That is why your package includes:
-
An Adopter's binder that has access to resources, training, and information we believe is helpful
-
One week supply of the dog food we recommend and feed the dogs while they are in our care .
-
A special adopter basket hand chosen and tailored to your dog
-
Fi collar with 6 months of GPS tracking code
WHAT IF WE ADOPT THE DOG AND IT ISN'T A GOOD FIT?
Part of the reason we have an in depth application and adoption process is not to be difficult, but rather to ensure that it IS a good fit. We do everything in our power to make sure we are setting everyone up for a happy ever after. We are open, honest and clear with potential adopters about each dog we have in our care, what they need to thrive and making sure the adopter can meet those needs.
We ask our adopters to view their dogs as family - that they commit to for life.
With that said, we as a rescue have made a promise to each and every dog to ensure they are in an environment that is going to meet their needs. In the rare event that the adopters cannot meet the dog''s needs once the adoption has been completed, we have policies in place so no dog is ever left behind.
