PROCESS

At WilsonHaus Rescue, we have a thorough adoption process. We believe that every dog deserves a loving home and we strive to ensure that each dog and adopter match is going to be a forever fit. We also believe in setting up adopters with the tools needed to integrate their new addition into their home and life. Setting up the people for success sets up the dog for success.

Our adoption process includes filling out an application, meeting the dog, and a home visit to ensure that the dog will be going to a safe and loving environment.

We also ask adopters to take our WilsonHaus Adopter Education class online to prepare for your new family member as well as attend several in person training sessions post adoption with one of Haus Trainers, included in your adoption package

APPLY
1

Whether you have found a dog on our site that you think would be a good fit, or are looking for WilsonHaus to play match maker, we start with the application process. We will review your application and contact you to discuss next steps which would include a virtual or in person home visit.

MEET
&
GREET

Once your application has been approved, we schedule a meet and greet for the dog you are interested in to ensure it's a good fit. If you have any  canine family members, this is also an opportunity to assess their interactions in a neutral environment. If the meet and greet goes well, and the potential adopters are ready to make a commitment to give one of our pups their loving forever home then we will set an adoption date.

2
PREPARE

WilsonHaus believes in providing the adopters with tools and resources to set everyone up for success. We have an online class we ask adopters to take prior to bringing your new companion home.  We are looking for people eager and willing to commit to their dogs and make it as seamless and easy as possible for adopters to feel prepared.

3
ADOPT

WilsonHaus and adopter will schedule an adoption appointment where we will sign paperwork, answer any questions and provide adopter with their packet and certificate of adoption. Congratulations!

FAQS

HOW MUCH ARE ADOPTION FEES?

Our adoption fees vary depending on the age and breed of the dog. The fees range between 300-500 dollars. These fees help us cover the cost of vaccinations, spaying/neutering, and other medical expenses. We believe that the love and companionship that our dogs provide are priceless, but we do ask for a fee to help us continue our mission of rescuing at-risk dogs from euthanasia in overcrowded shelters.

WHY DO YOU ASK US TO TAKE A CLASS AND PARTAKE IN TRAINING?

Our commitment lies first and foremost to the dogs we have promised to be stewards for. We have made a promise to them to not only love and care for them, but set them up for success. Part of ensuring we are doing right by each dog is by making sure we have done everything to set their new human guardians up with the resources, tools, education, and training to provide not only a loving home, but a knowledgable one.

A lot of the information we provide helps pet guardians navigate their adoption journey with more comfort and ease. Knowledge is power and providing the resources on our end is doing right by both the dogs we made a promise to and the people wanting to adopt.

Post-adoption, WilsonHaus provides two training sessions as part of your adoption package. This is to help you build a bond with your new family member, but also gives you an opportunity to learn how to communicate effectively. We believe training is instrumental and 100% necessary for even the best behaved dogs.

Part of the adoption contract you sign is commitment to scheduling and attending these sessions. We believe a willing pet parent will readily and excitedly partake in learning how to best serve their new buddy.

WHAT IS INCLUDED IN THE ADOPTION PACKAGE?

WilsonHaus Rescue strives to go above and beyond for our dogs and their new guardians. That is why your package includes:

  • An Adopter's binder that has access to resources, training, and information we believe is helpful

  • Two week supply of the dog food we recommend and feed the dogs while they are in our care .

  • A special adopter basket hand chosen and tailored to your dog

  • Two training sessions with one of our Haus Trainers

  • Fi collar with GPS tracking to provide peace of mind with at least 2 month subscription

WHAT IF WE ADOPT THE DOG AND IT ISN'T A GOOD FIT?

Part of the reason we have an in depth application and adoption process is not to be difficult, but rather to ensure that it IS a good fit.  We do everything in our power to make sure we are setting everyone up for a happy ever after.  We are open, honest and clear with potential adopters about each dog we have in our care, what they need to thrive and making sure the adopter can meet those needs.

We ask our adopters to view their dogs as family - that they commit to for life.

With that said, we as a rescue have made a promise to each and every dog to ensure they are in an environment that is going to meet their needs. In the rare event that the adopters cannot meet the dog''s needs once the adoption has been completed, we have policies in place so no dog is ever left behind.
